My Illness
Why I'm Sick

Ryan has been diagnosed with first VATERS and now VACTERL Syndrome.

V - Vertebral Dysgenesis
A - Anal Atresia
C - Cardiac Anomalies
T-E - Fistula +/- Esophageal Atresia
R: Renal or Radius Anomalies
L: Limb Anomalies

They did some genetic testing on him at birth and all the tests were normal. We were also told that VACTERL births are approximately 250 a year world wide. I have done tons of research and really there isn't a known cause for VACTERL. Research says that the problems start at 4-6 weeks gestation but the cause for the anomalies is unknown.

Currently they can't say if it's a genetic or diabetes related cause. Usually in Diabetic mothers who have a A1C of 10 or higher than can be caused but she had it in the 7's. Those are the only two known causes for it anyway.
